Marvel’s Hugh Jackman has opened up about how playing Wolverine has ruined his vocal range.
The actor, who’s well known in the musical world with blockbuster films like The Greatest Showman and Les Miserable to his name, also happens to be one of the biggest superhero stars of all time.
And growling so much while playing the character of Wolverine for well over two decades has messed with his vocal range.
“My teacher at drama school would have been horrified by some of the things I did in Wolverine,” Jackman said in a recent interview with BBC 4’s Front Row.

“I’ve done some damage to my voice through playing Wolverine. My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be, and I put that down directly to some of the growling and yelling I did,” he explained.
However, Jackman isn’t hanging up the claws anytime soon.
He recently announced that he’ll be returning to play Wolverine in Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds, as they finally bring Deadpool and X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Crown’s Emma Corrin is also joining Deadpool 3 as a villain.

Speaking about coming back to Wolverine late last year, Jackman told Sirius XM: “All because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines, now, we can go back because it’s ‘science’.
“And so I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me, and I think probably to the fans, too.”
Ryan Reynolds also confirmed this, saying: “We’ve figured out a way to do it that’s Hugh Jackman-approved and [Marvel Studios boss] Kevin Feige-approved where we’re completely protecting the legacy of Logan the way it was left off.
“I wouldn’t mess with that. I’m really excited.”
Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are streaming on Disney+, and also available on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray. Deadpool 3, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has a release date of September 6, 2024.
