Daredevil: Born Again Adds Carnival Row Star in Major Role

Daredevil: Born Again fills a major role by adding Carnival Row star Arty Froushan to the cast of the upcoming Disney+ series.

Per Deadline, Froushan was confirmed for a key, but a currently undisclosed, role in Born Again. While Marvel Studios has not yet revealed what character Froushan will play in the show, it is reportedly believed that the actor will play Harry, one of the key characters opposite Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. He joins production for Born Again, which began filming in Harlem this March.

News of Froushan's casting comes after on-set photos of D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk were shared online. One photo shows Froushan in a suit standing beside D'Onofrio. While plot details for Born Again have not been disclosed, it is believed that the series will partly adapt the "Mayor Fisk" story arc in Marvel Comics. D'Onofrio's upcoming appearance in Echo will reportedly lay the groundwork for Kingpin's New York City mayoral bid.

Prime Video's Carnival Row Ends With Season 2

As for Froushan, the actor is known for playing chancellor Jonah Breakspear in Prime Video's neo-noir fantasy series, Carnival Row. The series explored mythical creatures leaving their war-torn homelands and trying to survive in an oppressive human society. Froushan starred in Carnival Row alongside Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne during its two-season run, which ended with the series finale on Mar. 17 after Amazon announced its cancelation. Additionally, Froushan made an appearance in Season 1 of House of the Dragon, playing Qarl Correy in Episode 6, "The Princess and the Queen."

Born Again's cast also includes Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/Punisher and Sandrine Holt's Vanessa Fisk, Wilson's wife. Michael Gandolfini, Nikki M. James, Michael Gaston and Margarita Levieva were also added in undisclosed roles. Co-created by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, the upcoming Phase 5 effort builds on Netflix's Daredevil series, which aired for five seasons between 2013 and 2018. Filming for Born Again began in February in New York City under the working title "Out the Kitchen." Season 1 will consist of 18 episodes.

Previous set photos from Born Again have led to speculation from fans that Luke Cage will also appear in the series due to the Harlem filming location. While fans wait for Season 1 to drop, D'Onofrio has confirmed Season 2 is already in development. "By the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs—in the first season, too, but I can't say much about that—but the fans are gonna really get what they want. It's really quite cool to be doing it," the actor said.

Born Again is expected to premiere on Disney+ in early 2024.
